During the UFW Grape Boycott, I was teaching “Consumer Education” for the Reverend Leon Sullivan’s O. I. C. (Opportunities Industrialization Center), a job training program, at that worthy organization’s national headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. I put a grape boycott poster on the wall of my classroom, and I spent a little time explaining the reasons for the boycott to each of my classes and encouraged the students not to buy any grapes until after the boycott. Of course, I also went without buying grapes, myself (later on doing without lettuce, for the same reason).
