Having attended a “liberally” minded H.S. in 1968 - 1971, I had the opportunity to hear Cesar tell of the plight of Farm Workers in California. I was most impressed with his ideal of meeting this injustice with non-violent means; having a strong association with the ideas of Ghandi and Thoreau. Spoke with him after the H.S. assembly and volunteered my time; we exchanged phone numbers. He called a few months later and asked me to check out some of the local supermarkets to make sure the boycott stickers were on the produce. Communicated briefly by phone during the boycott grapes and boycott lettuce period.
Didn’t do much for the cause but Cesar always seemed appreciative with my small contribution.
